Front and Centre Stage Productions is proud to announce that they are accepting applications for the third annual Blair Llewellyn Memorial Scholarship.
The $750 non-renewable scholarship is available to full-time college students or recent high school graduates who live in Allegany County or one of its surrounding counties and who have declared, or intend to declare, a major in either Theatre or English. To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must also have a current cumulative or most recent grade point average of 3.0 or above.
Front and Centre Stage established the scholarship fund to honor the memory and work of the late playwright and author, Joseph Blair Llewellyn. Llewellyn, a Front and Center Stage board member, passed away suddenly on March 25, 2014. He was enthusiastic about all forms of art, but he had a particular fondness for literary and performing arts. He combined those interests into writing plays that were performed in Allegany County. Llewellyn’s poetry was also published in local literary magazines and he co-authored a book of short stories with his brother, Mark Llewellyn.
A selection panel will review all applications and choose a winner based on the following criteria: Artistic merit, contributions to the local arts community, academic standing, and financial need. Interested applicants should download the application form, which includes an essay portion.
The deadline to apply is September 9, 2016.
